The Auster J/1 Autocrat was produced at the end of the Second World War as a civil version of the successful wartime Auster AOP
( Air Observation Post ).
The protype J/1 - G-AGOH seen below - was a modified AOP mk V. This particular aircraft had its last flight on July 12, 1995 to the Newark Air Museum, where it has been on static display since.
In 1959, Auster merged with Miles to form Beagle. The Beagle A.61 Terrier was a modernized Auster AOP Mk VI and had its first flight in 1961.
