North American Harvard / Texan
The North American AT-6 / SNJ Texan (1940) was developed from the BT-9 (1936) and BC-1 (1937) as an advanced trainer aircraft. Export versions were known as the Harvard.
Many were produced by the Canadian Noorduyn Aircraft Ltd. as well ( later acquired by the Canada Car and Foundry company ).
A lot of these aircraft are still in airworthy condition today and a common sight at airshows.
Many featured in movies - often disguised as German or Japanese fighter aircraft.
PH-BKT ( the blue aircraft below ) crashed at Keiheuvel ( Belgium ) on february 4, 1990, while doing a barrel roll but didn' t recover from it. Sadly, both crew members were killed and the airframe was written off (damaged beyond repair)
